FR DAVID WRITES:
The Governing Body of Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School is very pleased to announce that Gillian Hood has been appointed as the new headteacher from September 2019.  Mrs Hood has been a primary school teacher for 20 years and in that time has held various roles, including deputy and headship positions in Haringey schools.  Mrs Hood was educated in the Diocese of Westminster, attending St Monica’s and St Michael’s Grammar School.  She says ‘I am a married mother of two. I have a 12 year old daughter, who currently attends St Anne’s, and a 2 year old son.  I am really looking forward to continuing the next chapter in the journey of Our Lady of Lourdes.  My commitment is to excellence and helping each and every child be the best that they can be.  I will be working with parents, children, staff, governors and the whole community to achieve this goal,’  We welcome Mrs Hood most warmly to our Parish, and we express our immense thanks and best wishes to Mr Meehan for his leadership in our school over these recent years.  More to follow.

WELCOME TO OUR CANDIDATES:
Seven adults have been preparing recently for  baptism or reception into the Church at Easter.  They were enrolled in a special ceremony at the Cathedral at the start of Lent, and will join us for our celebrations in Holy Week.  Please keep them in your prayers as they prepare to join the Catholic Church – and our Parish – at our Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday evening.

PENITENTIAL SERVICE:
Our Penitential Service will take place on Thursday 11th April at 10.30 am.

PRAYER FOR SURVIVORS OF ABUSE:
The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has designated this coming Friday in Lent as a day of prayer for the survivors of clerical sexual abuse and all those affected.  Cardinal Nichols has written encouraging all parishes to take part.  Prayers will be offered here for all those affected during our Mass and Stations on Friday at 10 am.

PALM SUNDAY & HOLY WEEK:
Next Sunday is Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week – the most important week in the Church’s calendar.  I look forward to us celebrating the events of Jesus’ passion, death and together.  The Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday & Easter) is central to our Christian experience.  Please take a poster, and a card with the times of Masses and celebrations here.  Next weekend, palm crosses will be blessed and the Passion reading proclaimed.  The 9.45 am Mass will begin in the courtyard.  Please note carefully that there will be no Sunday evening Mass on Easter Sunday, 21st April.  This is because the evening Mass of Easter is the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday – the pre-eminent celebration of the Church’s life each year.

FAIR TRADE STALL:
Will be open after all Masses next weekend (Palm Sunday).  If you have ordered any Easter goodies, please collect them then.

PETER COUTINHO RIP:
The Requiem Mass takes place on Monday 15th April at 10 am.  May he rest in peace.

MEMORY LANE CAFÉ & CARERS CLUB:
For people with Alzheimer’s, Dementia & Carers. Join us every Friday 10.45 am – 1.30 pm in the Parish Hall.  Tea, Coffee, snacks & sandwiches provided as well as singing, dancing & games.

LENTEN ALMS:
Today there will be a retiring collection for the Cardinal’s Lenten Appeal – the official Lenten Alms of the Diocese.  This year the appeal will go towards helping food poverty in the Diocese, especially food relief, education and meals for children who might go without in the school holidays.  Thank you for your generosity.

FR THOMAS:
Fr Thomas thanks everyone who came to his Mass and for your kind wishes. Fr Thomas will be with us for a few more weeks as there has been an administrative delay in his arrangments – so we are happy to have him with us a short while longer!
