PENTECOST SUNDAY
Today is the great solemnity of Pentecost, when we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit who brings life and gifts to the whole Church. We give thanks for the gift of belonging to the living Body of Christ, the Risen Lord. Today is the formal end of the Easter season. Monday is the Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church. Next Sunday is Trinity Sunday.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION THANKSGIVING
The children from Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School who received their First Holy Communion last autumn were able to celebrate a special Mass of thanksgiving in church on Friday. Please continue to pray for them, and for all those who are preparing for First Holy Communion right now.

MONEY & COUNTING TEAMS
Since the lockdown, we have made some changes in the routine so that money operations are simpler and more secure for helpers. Counting will now take place on Monday mornings in the new counting room (old paper shop). The parish office will be contacting our counting volunteers to try to create a new rota. Ideally, 4 or more teams would be useful. Please contact the parish office if you are unsure or don't hear from us.

MARRIAGE
Congratulations to Poonam Mesuria and Steven Rebello who were married here on Saturday afternoon.

LETTER FROM THE BISHOPS
This weekend there will be a letter from the bishops on the care of the environment available at the back of church.

CONFIRMATION AND FIRST COMMUNION
There is a selection of cards for these and other sacramental occasions on the table at the back of the church.  It is still not possible to open the shop in the Presbytery.  If you want something in particular, please contact the Office during opening hours.

EASING OF RESTRICTIONS & NEW PROCEDURES
Last week, we received guidance on the new situation for Places of Worship. We can continue to restore some important aspects of parish life while at the same time remaining vigilant, following the procedures and ensuring our church continues to be a safe place.

Please continue to use the hand sanitiser and face covering (unless exempt).
Please continue to observe 1m+ social distancing inside and outside church.
The toilets in the parish centre and church are now available for parishioners to use.
From Monday, we can now open the church for unsupervised private prayer. The church will open at about 9.30am and close after Fr Johnson's Mass (about 7.30pm). If you visit, you are invited to use the Test and Trace code.
It is now possible to take Holy Communion to the housebound. Eucharistic Ministers who visited the elderly are welcome to resume these visits. Please bring your pyx to Mass and place on the altar. Please observe social distancing and other sensible measures when visiting the housebound (e.g. short visit, hand-washing, face covering). The number of visits to different homes should be kept to a minimum in each session.
This weekend, baptisms and weddings recommence in the parish, with some restrictions.
It is still not possible to have congregational singing. We await further instructions.

Hopefully soon we will be able to convey further good news about other activities!

BUILDING A BETTER WORLD AFTER THE PANDEMIC
2021 is a critical year as world leaders decide how the world rebuilds from the pandemic. As Catholics we have an important role to play in calling for the world’s poorest communities to be included.   The Justice and Peace group are planning to lobby our local MP’s on this subject this spring.  If you would like to get involved please contact Brid McGregor This email address is being protected from spambots.
