'40 Days For Life is a worldwide movement that has the aim of protecting mothers and babies at risk from abortion. The current 40 Days for Life that is taking place in hundreds of cities around the world started on September 26th and runs through to November 4th. In London alone, vigils are taking place at three locations: Bedford Square, Brixton and Whitfield Street. By attending a prayer vigil in a spirit of love and compassion, you will be a public witness for the defence of the most vulnerable members of our society, the unborn. Like St John and Mary who prayed at the foot of the Cross, it is necessary for us to pray and show our love for God's children at the very places they are being killed. Crucially, we must pray for post-abortive mothers and fathers, and for abortion industry staff, so that they may convert and come to know God's great love for them as well as his mercy, healing power and forgiveness. For mothers in crisis pregnancies, we provide contact information for services providing counselling, as well as all manner of practical help and support that will help them to choose life for their child.

There have already been a number of confirmed "saves" at all three London Vigil sites. The following text messages sent between vigil participants describe but one example that is just a couple of days old.  The first message read as follows:

"Please pray for 'Laura', a catholic girl who was crying saying she wants to keep her baby but after speaking to us and leaving the clinic the person she spoke to on the phone persuaded her to go in."

The second message reads:

"Thank you for your prayers, 'Laura' has come out of the abortuary and has told us she is keeping her baby. The baby is due in June. She said she will bring the baby back to Whitfield street to meet us when he or she is born. :) God Bless"

Some facts and statistics that testify to the success of the 40 Days for Life approach include:
·          5,928 lives that have been spared from abortion — and those are just the ones we know about
·         69 abortion workers have quit their jobs and walked away from the abortion industry
·         24 abortion facilities have completely shut down following local 40 Days for Life campaigns
·         Hundreds of women and men have been spared from the tragic effects of abortion, including a lifetime of regret
·         Many people with past abortion experiences have stepped forward to begin post-abortion healing and recovery

The vigils at Bedford Square and Brixton last 12hrs a day (8am-8pm), seven days a week; the vigil at Whitfield Street is round-the-clock! At Bedford Square and Brixton in particular, there is a shortage of people signed up to cover the vigils - which should have at least three people present at all times.

Information about all of the London 40 Days for Life vigils can be found online:
http://www.40daysforlife.com/london/ (Bedford Sq); http://www.40daysforlife.com/brixton/;

By visiting the vigil website for any particular location, you will quickly and easily be able to register attendance under the vigil schedule section. After registration, you will be able to book vigil slots and see where coverage is most lacking!

It would be great if you could all have a look at your diary *today* and sign up to the vigil slots you can make on the online vigil schedule. All red slots are empty and need filling! Perhaps you could devote a few hours in a row? Perhaps you are retired or have a day off coming up and could devote part of it to 40 Days for Life? Please also invite any friends, family, parish groups, and prayer groups to participate.''

If you feel inadequate for the task, God will equip you with all you need: Corinthians 9:8: God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

Please put your faith into action and support the vigils with your attendance.

God Bless you,
