Isaiah 40: 1-5. 9-11 Words of comfort that speak to the heart characterise this reading from Isaiah, together with the promise of new Exodus and the revelation of divine glory.
2 Peter 3: 8-14 Against those who deny Christ’s future return in glory, the author contrasts God’s transcendence and forbearance with all that is transitory. He urges us to live in such a way as to be ready to meet the Lord who will come unexpectedly.
Mark 1: 1-8 John the Baptist is the last of the Old Testament prophets. He heralds the imminent coming of Jesus the Messiah.
