Zechariah 12: 10-11; 13:1
Zechariah’s prophecy about those who look on one who is pierced was seen by the early Church as a prophecy fulfilled in the crowds gazing on the crucified Christ. 

Galatians 3: 26-29
Paul tells us that when we are baptised into Christ all the social distinctions that lie at the heart of human society are laid aside before the unity that we share in Christ. 

Luke 9: 18-24
Jesus makes it clear to his disciples that he will be a Messiah who will only bring life when he has been rejected by the authorities and crucified.

Paul stresses the spiritual life as being of paramount importance for those who are Christians. 

John 14: 15-16.23-26
Jesus promises the disciples that they will never be alone, for he will send them an Advocate who will remain with them.  It is the Holy Spirit, who will guide them and teach them how to live as Jesus has taught them.
