Exodus 3: 1-8. 13-15
The Lord promises to deliver his people from slavery in Egypt and give them a land where they can build fruitful lives again. 

1 Corinthians 10: 1-6. 10-12
Paul tells us that God cared for Moses and the people who were delivered from slavery, but they were expected to remain faithful to God. 

Luke 13: 1-9
God gives plenty of opportunity for repentance.  Without repentance the people will perish.

Genesis 15: 5-12. 17-18
We hear of the covenant made between God and Abraham, a covenant that will never be broken. 

Philippians 3: 17-4:1
Being a disciple of Christ is never easy, particularly in a hostile world.  St Paul encourages the people of Philippi to remain united and true to the teaching of Christ. 

Luke 9: 28-36
While on the top of Mount Tabor with his disciples, Jesus undergoes a transformation of such magnitude that Peter does not want the experience to be lost.

Deuteronomy 26: 4-10
Moses commands the people to remember how God saved them from slavery in Egypt so that he might lead them into the promised land. 

Romans 10: 8-13
Paul tells us that anyone, Jew or Gentile, who calls in faith upon the name of the Lord will be saved. 

Luke 4: 1-13
Just as Israel was tested in the desert, Jesus enters into the wilderness to be tested by Satan.

Jeremiah 17: 5-8
Jeremiah urges faithfulness to God.  His list of one curse and one beatitude prepares us to hear the fuller list provided by Jesus in today’s Gospel. 

1 Corinthians 15: 12. 16-20
Paul tells the Corinthians how important it is to believe that Jesus was raised from the dead. 

Luke 6: 17. 20-26
Jesus provides a list of blessings and curses.  He predicts reversals in the fortunes of those who are now apparently blessed and of those now apparently cursed.

Isaiah 6: 1-8
Isaiah is overwhelmed by the majestic presence of God in the Temple.  But the holy God purges him and sends him to preach his message to an unjust society. 

1 Corinthians 15: 1-11
Despite his unworthiness, Paul in convinced that the risen Christ has called him to be an apostle. 

Luke 5: 1-11
Peter is afraid in the presence of Jesus, who brings about an amazing catch of fish.  Jesus calms his fears and sends him to catch people.
