Isaiah 56: 1, 6-7
Isaiah, the great prophet of Israel, foresees a day of salvation for all people, Jews and foreigners alike. 

Romans 11:13-15, 29-32
Paul, defender of the faith in Israel, is now the “apostle of the Gentiles”.  He looks forward to the day of unity. 

Matthew 15: 21-28
The faith of a pagan woman opens up the mission of Jesus to the world.

1 Kings 19:9, 11-13
The terrifying forces of nature do not deter Elijah from waiting patiently for God.  When he hears the sound of a gentle breeze he knows that God is near. 

Romans 9: 1-5
Christ is physically descended from the people of Israel.  He is the fulfilment of the privileges granted to them by God throughout their history. 

Matthew 14: 22-33
Peter and the disciples, in a boat far out at sea and fighting against the storm, represent the Church.  By walking across the water and saving them, Jesus reveals that he is the Lord of creation and that he is never apart from us, even if we cannot see him with our physical eyes.

Isaiah 55: 1-3
Isaiah tells us of the wonders of the generosity of God, and invites us to seek God rather than set our hearts on material wealth. 

Romans 8: 35: 37-39
Paul reminds us that our own fears and anxieties cannot keep us from the love of Christ.  We can always trust in love. 

Matthew 14: 13-21
Jesus feeds the five thousand with a little bread and some fish; there is even food left over once everyone has shared what they have.

When the Lord asks Solomon what he wants, he asks for a wise, understanding and discerning mind to govern the people.  Pleased by this, God promises to grant Solomon’s request. 

Romans 8: 28-30
God the Father has called us to share in his glory, intending the Son to be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 

Matthew 13: 44-52
A series of parables in which Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to treasure in a field, a fine pearl and a dragnet.
